Laying of the foundation stone for the DOCS Foundation’s new children’s home

The DOCS Children’s Foundation has been financially supported by NHB for almost 20 years. Similar to the Shaligram Bal Griha children’s home, which we run, this orphanage can also accommodate up to 35 children. Lila Bandhahari, who grew up in an orphanage herself and now runs a travel agency in Kathmandu, manages the current orphanage in Kathmandu. He finances living expenses such as rent, school fees and maintenance purely from donations made by his clients. A very nerve-wracking way of financing.

In 2024, his lease was terminated, leaving him with the big question of what to do with the children’s home. An American aid organisation was able to acquire a plot of land on the edge of the valley, but building a children’s home was unthinkable without financial assistance from other donors.

So, at the end of 2024, luck came to his aid when our friends from Lichtenegg received a large inheritance and agreed to support the construction of the new DOCS children’s home. The financial foundation was thus laid, and in November 2025, Erwin Stix from the Lichtenegg section was able to lay the first foundation stone for the orphanage.

The NHB is coordinating and supervising the construction, which is scheduled for completion in mid-2027, with a local architect. We will report on the progress of construction in the coming months.
