Devastating flash flood in Nepal. Many deaths

06.09.:
Authorities have revised the death toll to 1,287 and the number of missing to more than 4,000, which is said to include eight Germans. Most recently, rescue workers were able to rescue several survivors from the buried power plant tunnels.
Our team has been back in the disaster area over the past few days, in part to assess where Nepalhilfe can provide assistance within the limits of its capabilities.

01.09.:
The death toll is now officially reported to be more than 1,000. We are travelling through the disaster-stricken area in our vehicle, delivering urgently needed aid, particularly children’s clothing and medicines.

31.08.:
The first aid shipments—containing clothing, food, and emergency generators—were delivered to the disaster area by Nepalhilfe in collaboration with the German-Nepalese Aid Association (DNH). We will continue to make these deliveries over the coming days and weeks. There is a severe shortage of everything!

31.08.:
According to Caritas International, the death toll has risen to over 900, while the number of people missing has risen to 4,250. It is feared that most of the missing people have been buried under the mud.
But over 10,000 people were also rescued!

30.08.:
The death toll continues to rise, now exceeding 700. More than 3,000 people are still missing.

29.08.:
Authorities have revised the death toll to over 600 and the number of missing to more than 2,500, raising fears that the death toll could be much higher.

28.08.:
According to the IRK, up to 93,000 people have been affected by the disaster; according to the authorities, the death toll has risen to over 550, and the number of injured is reported to be approximately 1,500.

26.08.26:
The situation in Nepal is not yet fully clear, and the cause of the devastating flash flood has not been definitively determined, but it is certain that a massive wave of water and mud surged down the Bhotekosi and then the Trisuli River, destroying thousands of homes and numerous bridges. The tidal wave continued all the way to India, where it also swept people away.
To date, the authorities have recorded over 300 deaths and over 1,500 people missing. There is reason to fear that the figures will rise dramatically.

For the information of our donors:

projects run by Nepalhilfe Beilngries have not been directly affected by the floods, but we will, of course, continue to contribute to the reconstruction of the affected regions through donations and our own projects. This will drag on for years. The devastation is unimaginable. We’ll keep you updated.

We are therefore appealing for donations, using the reference ‘flash floods’, for the people and regions affected in Nepal. As always, 100 per cent of all donations go to Nepal, where we are in constant contact with our local representative.
