15 new water taps for Ratanpur / Tanahun Distrikt
The idea came from the local women’s committee of Ratanpur in Tanahun District, which is located about 50 km west of Kathmandu. Since many men from Ratanpur have to work abroad, the women have also taken on their tasks. In February 2018, during the inauguration of the school, they handed over a petition to Ralf Petschl and his wife Ingrid to finance a water pipeline project. After all, it is they who have to carry the precious liquid in jugs over difficult paths. Shyam Pandit, our long-standing local coordinator, comes from the mountain village. He naturally felt particularly obliged to discuss this with those in charge at NH Beilngries and to push for it. The aim was to create a pipeline system with several distribution points that would eliminate the daily task of carrying water. It took only four months from the beginning of the construction work in April to realise all this. 15 water points, distributed over the village, which is situated on a mountainside, now offer the opportunity to get fresh and clean water for daily use. Of the estimated costs of about 20,000 euros, 18,000 euros are covered by the Nepalhilfe Beilngries.
