Laying of the foundation stone for the new Shwet Ganesh Secondary School building

The Shwet Ganesh School in the village of Panauti in the Kavre district is bucking the trend of declining pupil numbers. While pupil numbers are declining at many schools, especially in mountainous regions, the number of pupils at this school on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley is increasing. Während die Schülerzahlen an vielen Schulen vor allem in den Bergregionen schrumpfen, steigt die Schülerzahl bei dieser Schule am Rande des Kathmandutalkessel continuosly In the last five years since the pandemic, from approximately 200 to currently 320 pupils.

This naturally requires new classrooms and teachers. While the Nepalese government is sending teachers to the region, there are currently no plans to build new classrooms, which is an untenable situation for the children, who are currently still sitting in classrooms with up to 45 pupils.

The municipality of Panauti has therefore decided to submit an application to the NHB for the construction of a new school building. As the situation appeared to be very urgent when our representatives visited the site, it has now been decided to construct a new building with eight classrooms.

Dazu fand im November 2025 im Rahmen der Projektreise von Mitgliedern der NHB die Grundsteinlegung statt. The building is scheduled to commence operations at the end of 2026.
