DOCS Orphanhage
Lila Bandahari (52) knows what it means to grow up without parents in a children’s home. He had experienced this fate himself and grew up in such an orphanage. However, he was able to attend school in Kathmandu at the time. He has built up a small tourist office and took in his first street child 25 years ago. From that point on, he used his good contacts with tourists to collect donations for his own children’s home. In 2002, he set up the DOCS Foundation (The Destitute and Orphan Children Safeguarding Foundation Nepal) www.docsnepal.org and in the same year opened the children’s home in Kathmandu.
Now that he has been given notice to quit his lease, he has been able to secure a plot of land outside Kathmandu where he can build a new children’s home for up to 40 children. The specific plans are now available. see photos We will support him financially on this rocky road, because we are absolutely convinced of his idealism, his experience and his person.
