Shaligram Bal Griha – our orphanage

The children’s home ‘Shaligram Bal Griha’ in the small village of Lhubu, just outside Kathmandu in the southeast, is the core project of the Nepalhilfe Beilngries. Orphans, half-orphans and social orphans are accommodated there. There is room for up to 38 children aged 4-18 years. These are looked after by 8 employees. In April 2001, the then Queen of Nepal, Aishwaya and Prince Dipendra, personally opened the children’s home. In addition, the children’s home has its own organic market garden, which supplies the children’s home with fresh vegetables. The children’s home’s energy supply is also largely provided by renewable energies, such as photovoltaics, solar cookers and a biogas plant. All children go to the nearby Westwing School or the Don Bosco School and thus receive the tools for a better future in Nepal. They get the chance to get a job or a university place after leaving the children’s home. To help them get started in life, all of them have the opportunity to take advantage of a micro-loan. By 2024, 45 children’s homes had already left the children’s home and were successfully going their own way in Nepal and the world.
