Right next to the Siddhi Memorial Hospital, a nursing home has been built on the hospital’s property, which is fully financed by NHB. It accommodates up to 40 senior citizens, who also receive medical care there. It is one of the very few old people’s homes in the Kathmandu Valley. The places there are in high demand because senior citizens who could not actually afford a place there are also accepted. They are well looked after and cared for in a country where the word ‘nursing home’ did not exist until a few years ago, because the family has always taken care of this generation. However, this system has been crumbling for many years, since many Nepalese work abroad and therefore cannot take care of their aging relatives.
